A multi-part, multilevel, academic yet practical approach to understanding the challenges of modern education, this teacher’s handbook examines the educational landscape from the ancient Vedic period to the modern era. It searches for a structure to support the five-fold development of the individual – physical, vital, mental, psychic, and spiritual – what Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have called a system of Integral Education, which can be implemented and aligned with current educational policies in India. The book contains suggested activities, worksheets, and toolkits for teachers and introduces the Integral Learning Ratio Concept that ideally enables educators to balance scholastic and co-scholastic periods within the daily school schedule, all aimed at transforming learning into a joyful and transformative experience for the child. Multiple diagrams, tables, and annexures, plus a list of references that encourage further examination of major concepts mentioned in the text enrich the impact of this book.

In this set of eight volumes, the author intends to share the joy of reading Savitri while facilitating and deepening the reader’s engagement with the poem. The first three volumes cover Books I and II; the remaining ones each cover two Books of the poem, but all share the same methodical presentation, aimed at accessibility. The exploration of each canto begins and ends with explanatory remarks to orient the reader in the progress of the poem. Selected short passages from Savitri, drawn from just a few pages, are followed by the author’s explanatory paraphrase and commentary. Included in the first volume is a historical context for understanding the legend of Savitri and Satyavan and Sri Aurobindo’s symbolic treatment of that legend as a revelatory epic encompassing the experiences and realisations of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Glossaries pertinent to each volume are a valuable aid for the reader. The commentary continues through these eight consecutive volumes in the same comprehensive manner, addressing all twelve Books of Savitri.

This third volume of the revised and enlarged edition of the Collected Works of Nolini Kanta Gupta comprises short essays that deal with different aspects of Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy and Yoga. Most were first published in The Advent or Mother India, two journals brought out by the Ashram, and made up the first edition of these Collected Works. At the end of the volume, there is an appendix with seven writings or talks that did not appear in the first edition of the Collected Works, a life sketch of Nolini Kanta Gupta, and a general note on the second edition of his Collected Works. The seven writings and talks included in the Appendix were originally published in The Advent or Mother India between 1951 and 1971, with titles such as “The Master Is Always Here”, “The New Body”, and “1971—A Sweet Year”.

In this fourth and final volume of the talks given at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education from 22 December 1971 until their end in September 1972, Nirodbaran continues to share his reminiscences about Sri Aurobindo. He also invited some senior sadhaks to speak to the students: Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, Vasudha Shah, Kireet Joshi, Arindam Basu, Manoj Das Gupta, and Manoj Das. Nirodbaran and the guest speakers talked on various topics, among them: the meaning of the terms Avatar and tapasya, how to feel the presence of Sri Aurobindo even though he is not physically present, Sri Aurobindo’s parents and his childhood, Nishikanto as a poet, the way Darshans were observed in the early years, events that happened in the days before the Mother left her body, and Sri Aurobindo’s prediction about the advent of the superman.
