To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Auroville’s inauguration on 28 February 1968 our first new publication takes a look back at the preparations for the event and the ceremonial mixing of earth from countries around the world in the marble urn located at the centre of Auroville. The Mother’s direction of the ceremony and the live broadcast from her room in Pondicherry as she read the Auroville Charter take centre stage as the drama of the inauguration unfolds. Using numerous photographs and interviews with those who participated in the event, the absorbing narrative of Inauguration of Auroville: Concept and Purpose draws the reader to the vision of human unity symbolised by the founding of Auroville.

The English of Savitri: Volume Three—Book Seven: The Book of Yoga continues the series based on classes held by the author at Savitri Bhavan. It looks at Part Two of Savitri, which covers the first part of Savitri’s story, from her birth in the first canto of Book Four to the death of Satyavan at the end of Book Eight. The volume begins with brief summaries of Books Four, Five, and Six, and concludes with a summary of Book Eight. The seven cantos of Book Seven are studied in detail; each sentence is examined closely and the vocabulary, sentence structure, and imagery are explained.

The next book introduced below originates from workshops given in Auroville. An Introduction to the Integral Yoga: Sri Aurobindo’s Vision and Practical Guidance is, at 120 pages, a digest meant to ground newcomers in the basics of the Integral Yoga, guide them to the major works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and give an overview of the communities and organisations connected to the study and practice of the Yoga.

The Ascent of the Sacrifice is a compilation from the works of Sri Aurobindo that addresses questions about the nature of sacrifice “in its triple character,—a sacrifice of works, a sacrifice of love and adoration, a sacrifice of knowledge”. In one of the extracts Sri Aurobindo asks and later answers this vital question:
An ascension towards a greater consciousness, an occupation of our mind, life and body by its powers has been accepted as the outstanding object of the Yoga: but still life here, not some other-life elsewhere, is proposed as the immediate field of the action of the Spirit,—a transformation, not an annihilation of our instrumental being and nature. What then becomes of the present activities of our being, activities of the mind turned towards knowledge and the expression of knowledge, activities of our emotional and sensational parts, activities of outward conduct, creation, production, the will turned towards mastery over men, things, life, the world, the forces of Nature?

A short work titled Sri Aurobindo and Uttarpara Speech gives the background for this historic speech, delivered by Sri Aurobindo shortly after his release from Alipore jail in 1909. Using personal reminiscences and newspaper accounts of the time, the author sets the scene at the Uttarpara Public Library ground:
As Sri Aurobindo stood up…a thunderous roar of bande mataram by a ten-thousand-strong crowd greeted him. Absolute silence prevailed in the meeting ground at a single raising of the finger by the speaker.…

No public address system was available at that time and Aurobindo’s voice was very mild, available to about a hundred people. But the assembly was absolutely silent in their all-consuming urge to hear him.

A new French edition of The Synthesis of Yoga is now available in two volumes. La Synthèse des Yoga is a fresh translation based on the most recent English edition of the work, published in 1999, which compared all available manuscripts and revisions made by Sri Aurobindo. Also, a new biography of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother has come out in French. L’Aurore d’une vie nouvelle: L’aventure de Sri Aurobindo et de Mère traces how their lives have, since the beginning, been linked at the very core to the same vision of a higher consciousness, leading humanity to the possibility of a divine life on earth.

This volume covers the seven cantos of Book Seven, The Book of Yoga. This short book discusses Sri Aurobindo's speeches as a leader of the independence movement in general and the background for this historic speech given on the grounds of Uttarpara’s public library after his release from Alipore jail in 1909. In the Uttarpara speech Sri Aurobindo spoke publicly for the first time about his spiritual experiences in prison. He explained that God had given him the strength "to speak a word to this nation which will help to raise it". The message on Sanatan Dharma was the central theme, and some have written that the speech contained in seed form the basic principles of his Integral Yoga that evolved later.

Binding: Soft Cover
Pages: 1078

ISBN: 978-93-5210-047-7
Publisher: Sri Aurobindo Ashram Publication Department, Pondicherry
Binding: Soft Cover
Pages: 293
Price: Rs 275

Oriya translation of The Secret of the Veda

Description of content for original work:
Sri Aurobindo’s study of the Veda examines the philosophic system of the Vedic mystics, the meaning of Vedic terms, and the sense of Vedic symbols and the psychological functions assigned to the Gods. The book also includes translations of selected hymns of the Rig Veda. Sri Aurobindo believed that a study of the Veda based on a modern method of critical research would reveal the esoteric and psychological sense of the Veda that was concealed behind an arcane system of symbols and rituals. He held that the ancient spiritual conceptions expressed in the Veda had perhaps once been a common culture spread over a large part of the earth, with India as a centre.

Assamese translation of Sri Aurobindo's Message: 15 August 1947

Description of content for original work:
In response to a request from All India Radio, Sri Aurobindo gave a message to mark 15 August 1947, the day of India's independence. This message to his countrymen spoke of five dreams that he had worked for, and which he now saw on the way to fulfilment. The realisation of these dreams would mark the beginning of a new age, not only for India but for the entire world, "for the political, social, cultural and spiritual future of humanity".
