This book includes basic, easily accessible information on Sri Aurobindo, the Mother, and their teaching, and on the Ashram, the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, and Auroville. Arranged in nine chapters by the editors, the texts of the first four chapters were written by Sri Aurobindo, beginning with his life sketch. The remaining texts were written by the editors, based on the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother and other sources. Printed on art paper, the text is enhanced by full-page photographs of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Many of the colour photographs give a sense of the life and activities engaged in by the residents and students and exemplify one of the founding principles of the Ashram that “All life is Yoga”—a field of practice for the evolution of “a greater life of the spirit”.

Using her experiences growing up in the Ashram since her arrival as a child in 1944, the author, in collaboration with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives and Research Library, has written an account of the growth of the spiritual community created by the Mother. She bears witness to developments over the years through her reminiscences and through her interviews with dozens of early Ashram members and department heads. A source of authentic information on the Ashram, its value is enhanced by more than 650 photographs that bring a lively interest to the unfolding history of the community.

In this set of eight volumes, the author intends to share the joy of reading Savitri while facilitating and deepening the reader’s engagement with the poem. The first three volumes cover Books I and II; the remaining ones each cover two Books of the poem, but all share the same methodical presentation, aimed at accessibility. The exploration of each canto begins and ends with explanatory remarks to orient the reader in the progress of the poem. Selected short passages from Savitri, drawn from just a few pages, are followed by the author’s explanatory paraphrase and commentary. Included in the first volume is a historical context for understanding the legend of Savitri and Satyavan and Sri Aurobindo’s symbolic treatment of that legend as a revelatory epic encompassing the experiences and realisations of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Glossaries pertinent to each volume are a valuable aid for the reader. The commentary continues through these eight consecutive volumes in the same comprehensive manner, addressing all twelve Books of Savitri.

Comprised of transcribed talks originally delivered in 2004 and 2005, this volume in a series on Savitri by the author covers the four cantos of Book Four. Canto One describes Savitri’s birth and childhood, fulfilling the Divine Mother’s promise to Aswapati that a soul will take birth to “change Fate by her unchanging will”. Her birth is symbolically portrayed as the cycle of Nature’s seasons. Canto Two describes Savitri as the embodiment of the Vedic Agni and traces her education in all the arts and inner disciplines. In the third canto, Savitri sets out in search of her life partner, symbolically representing the soul’s timeless quest to embody the earth’s aspiration for the Divine. In Canto Four, “The Quest”, Savitri travels through the world’s landscapes, guided by hidden godheads, as she prepares herself for her destined mission, her divine work.

A multi-part, multilevel, academic yet practical approach to understanding the challenges of modern education, this teacher’s handbook examines the educational landscape from the ancient Vedic period to the modern era. It searches for a structure to support the five-fold development of the individual – physical, vital, mental, psychic, and spiritual – what Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have called a system of Integral Education, which can be implemented and aligned with current educational policies in India. The book contains suggested activities, worksheets, and toolkits for teachers and introduces the Integral Learning Ratio Concept that ideally enables educators to balance scholastic and co-scholastic periods within the daily school schedule, all aimed at transforming learning into a joyful and transformative experience for the child. Multiple diagrams, tables, and annexures, plus a list of references that encourage further examination of major concepts mentioned in the text enrich the impact of this book.

The 123 prayers in this book, about two-fifths of the complete collection, constitute all of the known translations of the Mother’s Prayers and Meditations in which Sri Aurobindo had a hand. Originally written in French, Sri Aurobindo directly translated 24 of these prayers in whole or in part. The remaining 99 were translated by disciples and then meticulously revised by him. In revising these prayers, he not only corrected errors of language and grammar, but recast them with a view to style. 58 of these translations by the disciple Datta with revisions by Sri Aurobindo are being published here for the first time.

Telugu translation of Savitri

        Savitri is Sri Aurobindo's major poetic work, an epic in blank-verse of about 24,000 lines in which a tale from the Mahabharata becomes a symbol of the human soul's spiritual quest and destiny.

Kannada translation of The Mother: A Short Biography

        Sri Aurobindo, in his most famous short work 'The Mother', wrote: "The One whom we adore as the Mother is the divine Conscious Force that dominates all existence, one and yet so many sided that to follow her movement is impossible even for the quickest mind and for the freest and most vast intelligence. The Mother is the consciousness and force of the Supreme..."
When asked, "Do you not refer to the Mother (the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram) in your book 'The Mother'?" he answered "Yes". Replying to disciples about her manifestation and embodiment Sri Aurobindo wrote: "The Divine puts on an appearance of humanity, assumes the outward human nature in order to tread the path and show it to human beings", and again: "Her embodiment is a chance for the earth-consciousness to receive the Supramental into it."
This book narrates many events in the Mother's life mostly from her autobiographical statements and helps the reader to discover the timeless, ever-present Mother, her power and her love and her work of the supramental transformation.
