Each 24th April we mark the Mother’s final arrival in Pondicherry a day in 1920 when she rejoined Sri Aurobindo to continue their work of preparing the Earth’s consciousness to receive the highest spiritual truths waiting to manifest. It is therefore fitting to introduce two publications that relate to this work of preparation. Sri Aurobindo and His Ashram (Deluxe Edition) is being published again after many years. It imparts basic information on Sri Aurobindo, the Mother, and their teaching, and on the Ashram, the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, and Auroville. Printed on art paper, the book also includes colour photographs that portray the life and activities engaged in by the residents and students as a field of practice for the Integral Yoga.

The Mother’s Creation: Growing up in Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a pictorial history of the Ashram that features more than 650 photographs, is an account of the growth of the spiritual community created by the Mother. Although replete with the reminiscences of the author, who came to the Ashram as a child in 1944, the book is primarily a source of authentic information on the Ashram, prepared in collaboration with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives and Research Library.

Two new publications study Sri Aurobindo’s epic poem Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol. The first is a set of eight volumes, Reading Savitri: A Passage-wise Commentary and Glossary, in which the author explores Savitri line by line, canto by canto, addressing all twelve Books of the poem using explanatory paraphrases and commentary. The second publication, Savitri: Its Profound and Magnificent Significance, Book IV, is a collection of transcribed talks by the author. The book covers all four cantos, beginning with Savitri’s birth and growth to womanhood and followed by her embarking on a quest to follow the destiny she carries within her. As Savitri undertakes her mission on Earth, Sri Aurobindo uses a symbolic portrayal of the seasons, affording the reader majestic lines of poetry describing Nature.

The importance of education occupied Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s attention as vital to the development of a new generation of men and women. They wrote presciently of fresh approaches to an integral education—physical, vital, mental, psychic, and spiritual. Five Dimensions of True Education: Empowering Educators for the Future searches for a structure to support this five-fold development of the individual in modern Indian classrooms.

Kannada translation of The Mother: A Short Biography

Description of content for original work:

Sri Aurobindo, in his most famous short work 'The Mother', wrote: "The One whom we adore as the Mother is the divine Conscious Force that dominates all existence, one and yet so many sided that to follow her movement is impossible even for the quickest mind and for the freest and most vast intelligence. The Mother is the consciousness and force of the Supreme..."
When asked, "Do you not refer to the Mother (the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram) in your book 'The Mother'?" he answered "Yes". Replying to disciples about her manifestation and embodiment Sri Aurobindo wrote: "The Divine puts on an appearance of humanity, assumes the outward human nature in order to tread the path and show it to human beings", and again: "Her embodiment is a chance for the earth-consciousness to receive the Supramental into it."
This book narrates many events in the Mother's life mostly from her autobiographical statements and helps the reader to discover the timeless, ever-present Mother, her power and her love and her work of the supramental transformation.
